In this talk, we will look at young children's acquisition of relative clauses and idiomatic expressions in Mandarin Chinese. Both relative clauses and idiomatic experiments involve linguistic complexity, one in sentence structure and one in meaning interpretation. We will discuss how various factors may affect children's linguistic performance and see what their error patterns may tell us about their language development.
